JCDRILL launches new JRC500BA reverse circulation drill rig with integrated air compressor for high-efficiency mineral exploration

The JRC500BA represents a major evolution in RC drilling technology. While the JRC500B delivers outstanding deep-hole exploration performance with a maximum drilling depth of 500 meters and hole diameters ranging from 105 mm to 450 mm, the new “BA” variant removes the need for separate air support equipment by integrating a high-capacity air compressor directly onto the rig chassis. It improves mobility, cuts setup time and simplifies logistics for exploration campaigns in remote areas.

The standout feature of the JRC500BA is its built-in air compressor system, which supplies the high-pressure airflow required for efficient reverse circulation and DTH drilling. This integrated configuration eliminates the logistical complexity of towing or transporting separate compressor units, greatly reducing mobilization time and site footprint. The integrated design ensures optimal air supply directly to the dual-wall drill pipe system. Compressed air drives rock cuttings back through the inner tube, enabling clean, uncontaminated sample collection.

Proven Drilling Performance of JRC500B Series

The JRC500BA inherits the robust drilling capability of the JRC500B rig. Powered by a 239 kW Cummins diesel engine (Euro-2 compliant), the machine features a full hydraulic system for rotation, feed, lifting, clamping, winch, stabilisation and travel. The rotary head delivers torque from 11,800 to 5,900 N·m at 0–74–148 rpm, while the feed system offers a 7,600 mm stroke, 30-ton pull-back capacity and 0–15-ton downward thrust capacity, ensuring stable performance for deep drilling.

Automatic Rod Handling for Maximum Productivity

The JRC500BA is fitted with a fully automatic rod handling system for efficient changeover of 6-meter RC drill pipes (compatible with 102 mm, 114 mm and 127 mm diameters). This hydraulic rod manipulator drastically cuts manual labour, reduces non-productive downtime and improves operational safety, directly boosting meters drilled per shift and overall project profitability. The pipe rack can hold up to 36 rods (216 meters of 102 mm × 6 m RC drill pipe).

Three-Layer Cyclone Separator for Superior Sample Quality

The rig is equipped with a three-stage cyclone and sampling system for efficient sample collection. Mounted at the rear of the operator station for easy sample monitoring, the cyclone uses staged pneumatic separation plus hydraulic oscillating movement for convenient positioning between working and transport modes. This advanced sampling system delivers high-quality geological samples with minimal contamination, critical for mineral exploration, resource assessment and environmental studies.

Heavy-Duty Construction for Tough Terrain

True to its heavy-duty designation, the JRC500BA features a rugged chassis mounted on a tracked carrier with a low centre of gravity and balanced weight distribution. The travel system uses dual mechanical/hydraulic brake torque motors and an automatic levelling device of ±10°, ensuring stable and safe operation on difficult, uneven ground. Its shipping dimensions are 12,000 × 2,900 × 3,000 mm with a net weight of 34 tonnes, delivering exceptional stability under heavy drilling loads. Four hydraulic outriggers with a 600 mm stroke provide extra stabilisation during drilling operations.

Integrated Hydraulic and Intelligent Control Systems

The JRC500BA adopts a fully hydraulic operating system to control all functions including travel, rotation, feed, lifting, outrigger positioning and rod change. It greatly reduces labour intensity and improves construction quality. The rig combines remote control and valve control for flexible operation under different working conditions, improving operating comfort, visibility and overall site safety. The electronic control system uses an imported controller, remote control interface and proximity switches for precise operation management.
